The coworking community expands with new offerings and a larger footprint
Columbia, S.C. -- June 28, 2019 -- SOCO, a coworking community for creative entrepreneurs and independent workers, has announced that they have taken over the space at 808 Lady Street and will begin renovations for their newest space to open this fall.
Their largest space to date, SOCO 80808 will replace the existing Vista location and offer more than 10,000 square feet of collaborative workspace for growth companies and teams, entrepreneurs, and freelancers. As a direct response to multiple requests from members and the community, SOCO 80808 will offer a number of enclosed and semi-enclosed private offices and provide the company’s first “co-location” space focused on supporting the needs of early stage companies and entrepreneurial/creative teams.
In addition to the new features, SOCO 80808 will continue to offer the same amenities to which members and visitors have become accustomed: 24/7 access for members, hundreds of events a year, bottomless coffee and craft beer on tap, incredible community connections and vibrant workspaces.
Although it is well known as a coworking space, SOCO actually totes the close-knit, extremely collaborative community as its defining feature. SOCO has over 150 members, all of whom stay connected daily through SOCO’s digital platform and routinely share work to support a collective “rising together” mentality.
“We’re really proud of what SOCO represents. It’s progressive, ambitious, and all about building, growing and sustaining community - much like Columbia itself. SOCO 80808 is a big step forward, not just for us, but for the entire entrepreneurial and independent workforce that call Soda City ‘home,’” said Greg Hilton, one of SOCO’s founding partners.
One of SOCO’s newest community members will be Willis HR, a fast-growing and innovative HR consulting & recruiting firm with an incredible team dynamic.
"When I first opened Willis HR, I envisioned a culture that fostered innovation, collaboration, and flexibility. We offer a 100% work from home culture but our team has been searching for a physical workplace and community that would complement our vision. SOCO 80808 will allow our team to come together for brainstorming, networking, and strategic planning. The Willis HR team is rapidly growing and our ability to leverage this space will only accelerate and transform the services offered to business owners in South Carolina,” said founder Jada Willis.
Many of SOCO's longtime members have also already committed to private offices and permanent desks at the new location as they plan for growth. Software development group Krumware first made the move to SOCO BullStreet, and will now continue to expand at SOCO 80808.
"Moving to SOCO 80808 allows Krumware to return to the Vista and center ourselves within Columbia's creative, entrepreneurial and tech core," said Colin Griffin, Krumware founder. "Our new office will give us the space we need to support our next stage of growth as we increase our project capacity and create more opportunities and challenges for local software developers, designers, and students."
SOCO 80808 is named to pay homage to 80808, the artists’ collective that was previously housed at 808 Lady Street for many years.
SOCO 80808 is scheduled to open this fall. To book a tour or reserve a desk or private office, visit https://soco-work.com/vista80808/ or contact SOCO Community Engagement Manager Lynn Luc at lynn@soco-work.com.
