The UofSC Region of the South Carolina Small Business Development Center (SBDC) network has hired John Gethers as a Business Consultant. He will provide consulting to existing business owners in the Columbia area. He joins Allen Brown, Midlands Coordinator and Business Consultant and Business
Consultant Bob Jones in the Columbia SBDC office.
Gethers will specialize in helping business owners navigate the Small Business Administration (SBA)’s COVID-19 relief funding processes and other pandemic-related challenges. In 2020 and 2021, the SBA made disaster funding available to businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Gethers will provide consultations on the EIDL loan, PPP forgiveness and Shuttered Venues Operators Grant program.
“John’s experience with starting companies in the Columbia area and serving in executive management positions will benefit the potential small business owners he will be consulting with,” said Paul Featheringill, UofSC Region Director. “His background and specialized skill sets will contribute to the SC SBDC tremendously.”
A magna cum laude graduate, Gethers earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from Claflin University in Orangeburg and he is PMP certified. Prior to joining the SC SBDC, Gethers was a Business Development Consultant for Higher Yields Consulting in Denver, CO, and he spent the bulk of his career owning and operating several alternative lending companies.
“As a consultant for the SC SBDC, I look forward to working with clients who need assistance with the applications for these essential funding programs,” said John Gethers. “I am excited to share my knowledge and experience as a former small business owner.”
