SRS Sponsors Deer Hunt for Wounded Warriors and Mobility Impaired

AIKEN, S.C., (November 8, 2018) – The annual deer hunt sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and Savannah River Site contractors for the benefit of our nation’s wounded warriors and mobility impaired hunters will take place this Friday.

When: It is recommended that members of the media arrive between 11-11:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 9, when the morning hunt ends. Lunch will be provided.

Where: Savannah River Ecology Laboratory Conference Center, located on Highway 278,
between New Ellenton and Windsor, S.C. (Prominent signage will be in place.)

From Augusta, Ga.: Take Highway 28 east to Beech Island, S.C. Then take U.S. Highway 278 east (Sand Bar Ferry Road) to New Ellenton, S.C. and cross Highway 19, continuing east on Highway 278 about 3.5 miles. Turn left at the Conference Center sign. Then follow the gravel road and signs to the center (you will be on this road for a while).
From Aiken, S.C.: Take Highway 19 south (Whiskey Road) to New Ellenton, S.C. Then turn left (east) on U.S. Highway 278. Go about 3.5 miles. Turn left at the Conference Center sign. Then follow the gravel road and signs to the center (you will be on this road for a while).

Many of the hunters are residents from other states; however, most of the wounded warriors are receiving treatment and rehabilitation services from Augusta VA Medical Center, Augusta, Ga.

SRNS manages the annual deer hunt program for the U.S. Department of Energy and provides all the necessary equipment needed to participate.
