Columbia, SC – Carrie McNeil, Director of Sales and Leasing for CAPE Asset Management announced today that the Summit Commons Shopping Center will expand to include a new small shop retail building to be located on the outparcel along Summit Commons Parkway in Northeast Columbia. Along with the new retail building consisting of approximately 3,600 SF, of which 1,200 SF will be occupied by Smoothie King, there will be a free standing, The Human Bean double drive thru coffee facility. This Human Bean location will be the second to open in the Columbia MSA. The first has been open and very successfully operating in South Congaree since early August. Summit Commons is an approximately 51,738 sqft shopping center anchored by Food Lion. Other tenants include Republic Finance and Bethea Family Dentistry.
“We can’t wait to open in Summit Commons” commented Alex Tremaine, Operations Manager for The Human Bean franchisee, THB Operations, LLC. “It has been wonderful working with CAPE Asset Management on this project. They have helped create an ideal situation for us” added Mr. Tremaine. The Summit Commons location will be the second in the Columbia area for The Human Bean. The first, on Main Street in South Congaree, was quickly adopted by the people in the area and has become a local favorite. The brand, headquartered in Medford, OR offers a unique double drive-thru facility, with a walk-up window and outdoor seating. The menu consists of hand-crafted espresso and coffee drinks, Italian sodas, smoothies, baked goods, and breakfast sandwiches. The double drive-thru format along with the walk-up window allow for three customers to be served at once without ever going into the building. The Human Bean sites are designed with multiple points of entry and exit allowing for easy access and fast service. “Our style of service means that you never have to leave your car.” added Mr. Tremaine.
Another very important part of this project is Smoothie King. Featuring its “Clean Blends” philosophy, Smoothie King is laser focused on good health. “We’re excited to be able to offer residents of South Congaree and the surrounding communities a healthy meal alternative that uses whole fruit and organic veggies, and never any syrups or artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Our Smoothies help our guests achieve their health and fitness goals by providing the right guidance with expertly blended, highly nutritious, and delicious smoothies that take the legwork and guesswork out of eating well” says Kevin Butler, President of Smoothie King franchisee, D&DSK Operations, LLC.
“Summit Commons has been one of our most vital and successful projects. Food Lion is a very strong anchor and drives huge traffic to the center, we love to work with them” commented Ms. McNeil. Construction on the outparcel will start in the fall of 2020 and will be completed by Spring 2021. Space in the new building is now available for lease. “We’re excited to bring more commerce and jobs to the area. It’s really gratifying when we can do an expansion like this” added Ms. McNeil.
