The nation’s leading rooftop solar company, Sunrun, joins South Carolina’s top solar advocacy group
COLUMBIA, January 14, 2019-- South Carolina Solar Business Alliance (SBA) announced today that Sunrun, the largest dedicated residential solar, storage and energy services company in the United States, will join as a member of the organization. The announcement highlights the solar industry’s continued unity in South Carolina and sets the stage for a renewed push to pass meaningful pro- solar legislation in 2019.
This year, the state’s solar industry is urging South Carolina’s Legislature to pass a broad new energy bill, Senate Bill 332, that would reform the state’s energy market, create jobs, expand solar deployment, and lower some of the highest home energy bills in the U.S. The bill would remove arbitrary caps on rooftop solar and streamline processes for installing new large-scale solar projects.
"With South Carolina utilities quickly approaching their net metering caps, there has never been a more important time for solar advocacy,” said Tyson Grinstead, Director of Public Policy for Sunrun. “Sunrun is excited to join the South Carolina Solar Business Alliance as the industry fights for continued growth in the Palmetto State"
Chairman of the South Carolina Solar Business Alliance Bret Sowers agreed, “2019 marks the 10th year our organization has engaged in advocating for solar growth in South Carolina and the addition of Sunrun to the SBA will only strengthen our leadership in the state and build upon the nearly 40 companies we represent today. As the cheapest form of new electric generation available today, solar must be apart of the states energy future should it continue to lead in attracting business, economic prosperity, and grow the diverse solar workforce in our state. Solar energy benefits both homeowners choosing to take control of their energy needs, and communities by creating new jobs and a more robust, flexible energy grid. We look forward to having Sunrun join the South Carolina Solar Business Alliance as we work to expand solar in South Carolina.”
