A great day of golf is coming to Columbia Country Club as Columbia International University hosts The Third Annual CIU Golf Classic on Sept.30.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. There will be tee packages for all golfers, hole challenges and special contests.
Proceeds from the event assist in the growth of CIU athletics with sponsorship opportunities available.
The CIU Intercollegiate Athletics Program began in 2012, growing to include men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s track, women’s softball, women’s volleyball, men’s golf and baseball.
CIU athletics plays in the NAIA and is a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) and the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA).
CIU Golf Classic Director Kim Abbott says the golf tournament is an opportunity to show the community what CIU Athletics is about.
“Collegiate athletics has a unique opportunity to teach the value of teamwork, upstanding character, the value of hard work, and the importance of giving back to society,” said Abbott, who also serves as CIU’s assistant athletics director. “At CIU, our golf tournament helps us raise necessary funds that give our student athletes that opportunity. We appreciate the generosity and support of our donors.”
