(COLUIMBIA, S.C.,) - The Midlands Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is pleased to announce that Justin Schaeffer of Cayce has been nominated as a candidate for LLS’s 2019 Man of the Year. Candidates across the county form powerful fundraising teams to raise the most funds for blood cancer research and compete in honor of two local children who are blood cancer survivors.
Schaeffer, the director of federal contracts at Boyer Commercial Construction, is one of an elite group of community and business leaders who will compete for the titles of LLS’s Man & Woman of the Year. Competing for these titles is an honor surrounded with a great deal of fanfare, including a full-page ad in USA Today.
"My father was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma 10 years ago and I have close friends affected by cancer,” said Schaeffer. “After retiring from the Army last year, I wanted to continue to serve others and saw this as a great opportunity to highlight what the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society does in our community: help folks who are in need, remember loved ones we've lost to this disease and raise as much money as possible to support finding a cure. Join me at teamwedid.com."
As a candidate, Schaeffer will raise funds for a world without blood cancers between March 5th and May 16th, 2019. The man and woman candidates who raise the most funds during the 10-week campaign will be awarded the titles Midlands Man & Woman of the Year at a Grand Finale on May 16th at the USC Alumni Center. The local winners are then entered into the competition for National Man & Woman of the Year titles.
