COLUMBIA, SC, July 15, 2021— Thomas & Hutton is pleased to announce the following new hires in its Columbia office.

Alexa Schiazza joined Thomas & Hutton’s Water Resources Department as a Designer. Alex received her bachelor of science in biosystems engineering with an ecological emphasis at Clemson University. While at Clemson, she worked in the development of a field-scale research facility to assess the effect of sea-level rise on freshwater bottomland forests. As a Designer in the Water Resources Department, Alexa’s responsibilities include stormwater capital improvement project design, stormwater modeling, sediment and erosion control design, and environmental permitting. She is currently working on sediment and erosion control plans for several major energy infrastructure improvement projects across various regions of South Carolina.

In her spare time, Alexa enjoys baking and playing tennis.

Brent Callan joined Thomas & Hutton’s Columbia Civil Department as a Field Representative. He brings over 25 years in the construction industry to his role and has recently worked as a quality engineer during the construction of nuclear containment vessels. Brent obtained his bachelor’s degree in business administration management from University of South Carolina Aiken and an associates degree in applied science from Aiken Technical College. In his role as a Field Representative, Brent will perform routine construction observation for land development projects while serving as a liaison between the owner, T&H, and the contractor. He will assist Thomas & Hutton Project Managers in effectively administering construction contracts by visiting project sites and reviewing conditions, participating in meetings, and keeping up with all project plans and specifications. Brent is currently working on several projects throughout the South Carolina Midlands including Valencia Bridge Replacement in Fairfield County, Old Dairy Road Relocation and Fibertex Expansion in Laurens County, Dillon Speculative Building in Dillon County, and the Florence Business Park in Florence County.

Outside of the office, Brent likes to ride dirt bikes and attend motorsports events.
