Columbia, S.C. (December 13, 2018) - Central Carolina Community Foundation, the Midlands’ local center for philanthropy, has awarded the 2018 David W. Robinson Catalyst Award to Transitions Homeless Center for their leadership in providing services and a pathway to permanent housing for homeless men and women in the Midlands.
The David W. Robinson Catalyst Award was created in memory of the Community Foundation’s inaugural board member David W. Robinson and was established to recognize organizations in the Foundation’s 11-county service area that have exemplified leadership, creativity, vision, and commitment in addressing critical community issues. Nominations for the award are accepted from the community each fall.
Transitions Homeless Center opened in 2011 and is the Midlands largest homeless transitions center, providing homeless men and women access to a day center, hot meals, showers, service providers, and housing. Transitions’ commitment to assisting sub-populations in the homeless community including veterans, young adults, and seniors is unparalleled. The organization collaborates with over 50 local agencies to provide tools to create a stable environment for homeless adults and assists them with taking the necessary steps towards moving into permanent housing.
“Transitions exemplifies the true meaning of the Catalyst Award through their vision and commitment to assisting those in need, “says JoAnn Turnquist, President & CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “Their creativity in addressing the critical issue of homelessness has impacted many lives in our community.”
