COLUMBIA SC – Turning Pages SC is thrilled to announce that its Interim Executive Director Lisa Cole has received the prestigious Katharine Heath Manning Perry Award by the Junior League of Columbia. This annual founder’s award honors members who have excelled in the league while also using their leadership training in service to the broader community. Cole says her first thoughts on winning was of those who had mentored her along the way. “I am so humbled by this unexpected recognition from ladies I view as role models,” said Cole. “Their passion for service is inspiring.” This award recognizes that Cole’s impact extends beyond the league itself. A graduate of United Way’s Blueprint for Leadership, she has also served on the Board of Directors of East Point Academy, Midlands Fatherhood Coalition, River’s Edge Retreat, and Cayce Beautification Foundation. She has worked on over 35 committees around the Midlands, served on multiple School Improvement Councils and acted as an American Legion Ethics Hearing Manager. At Turning Pages SC, the state’s oldest adult literacy council, Cole has demonstrated unwavering commitment to accessible education. Under her leadership, the council reignited its free tutoring programs, re-branded its image, recruited almost 100 new volunteers and secured multiple grants.“We are so proud of Lisa,” said Emily Davison, Turning Pages SC Community Engagement Chair and fellow league member. “Her dedication is an inspiration to all of us at the council. We are proud to have her as our Director.” Cole was formally honored at the Junior League of Columbia’s General Membership Meeting at Segra Park in May 2023.To learn more about Turning Pages SC, visit their website at www.turningpagessc.org.
