Daniel Radcliffe and Joshua McGuire star in Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead
The hilarious comedy straight from the classic tale of Hamlet – Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead brings audiences two supporting characters who take their own spotlight in this original play. Filmed in the revered Old Vic Theatre in London, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead will screen at Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (HT@MTC) on Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at 7 PM.
Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, The Woman in Black), Joshua McGuire (The Hour), joined by David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral, The Witness for the Prosecution) shine in this brilliantly funny situation comedy marking the 50th anniversary of the play.
“People will recognize the actors on screen from Hogwarts or a famed UK television series,” says Kristin Cobb, Executive Director of HT@MTC. “To have them portray two classic jokers such as Rosencrantz and Guildenstern will be a real treat and change of genre for the viewers.”
Against the backdrop of the classic Shakespeare tragedy, the plot revolves around the duo who are pondering their existence and their death while on a mission for the King of Denmark. As the young troublemakers stumble their way in-and-out of the action of Shakespeare’s iconic play, they become increasingly out of control as their version of the story unfolds.
The play and its actors have received praise for their noteworthy performances. The Times calls the performances “hilarious,” while The Daily Telegraph has described the two protagonists as “a delightful double act.”
The piece is a quick-paced, back-and-forth labyrinth of human crises, where the two leads are 16th-century slapstick comedians. Although the play was written 50 years ago, audiences will still relate to this hilarious duo and be entrenched in a drama with a title lifted verbatim from the final scene of Shakespeare’s play.
National Theatre Live is a groundbreaking project launched in June 2009 that has broadcast more than 40 productions to 5.5 million people across the world.
