Columbia businesses now welcome to join
COLUMBIA, S.C. – Businesses in Columbia, South Carolina, now have the opportunity to participate in the Friends of Lenoir-Rhyne Discount Program, aimed at connecting Lenoir-Rhyne University’s campus community with local businesses.
The Friends of LR Discount Program was initiated through the University City Commission (UCC), a board aimed at broadening the relationship between LR and its hometown of Hickory, North Carolina. The program allows businesses to express support for LR by offering a discount to their local University’s campus community. Currently, more than 50 businesses in the Hickory community provide LR discounts. Any business in Columbia is invited to participate in the program by offering a discount to students, faculty, and staff at LR’s Columbia Center. Businesses are also welcome to extend their discount to LR alumni.
All Friends of LR receive a flag, pennant, and stickers to display in their business, which signifies participation in the program while showing LR pride.
“The University City Commission is excited to extend our mission of growing Lenoir-Rhyne’s presence and interaction with the surrounding community to the city of Columbia,” said Mary-Margaret Baker, UCC chair. “Our Friends of LR Discount Program is an important initiative which helps enhance the collegiate atmosphere in our surrounding communities while connecting Lenoir-Rhyne students, faculty, and staff with local businesses.”
LR and the UCC are thankful for the many ways local businesses add value to the communities they serve.

The Columbia Center also offers programs in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Human Services, and Religious Leadership.
The Columbia Center shares a campus with LTSS, which merged with LR in 2012, and is one of seven seminaries throughout the United States in the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA). It is the only ELCA seminary in the southeastern U.S. LTSS is an ecumenical seminary with a mission to teach, form, and nurture women and men for public ministry.
