The United Way of the Midlands Young Leaders Society (YLS), in partnership with All Good Books, will host its next installment of the YLS Learning with Leaders series: Small Biz, Big Dreams in Five Points, on June 7, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at All Good Books (734 Harden St., Columbia, S.C. 29205). This event is sponsored by the Five Points Association.

Small Biz, Big Dreams in Five Points is dedicated to celebrating the spirit of small business development and entrepreneurship. A panel of small business owners from the Five Points area will gather to share their personal stories, challenges and triumphs in starting and owning their own businesses.

Moderating the panel discussion will be Caroline Crowder with GrowCo and panelists include:
• Amy Beth Franks with The Gourmet Shop
• Dr. Laura Boccanfuso with Van Robotics
• Tzima Brown with Sunrise Artisan Bath and Body
• Sean McCrossin with Drip and Scoopy Doo

Learn more about the panel at uway.org/events.

YLS’s philanthropic focus is education, and we believe in empowering educators and supporting our local schools. To make a meaningful impact, YLS is requesting each guest to bring at least one school supply for teachers. These supplies will be collected by a United Way Midlands Reading Consortium representative and contribute to our Ready, Set, Supply campaign for educators. As a token of gratitude, guests who bring supplies will be entered into a raffle featuring prizes donated by local small businesses.

A portion of the event proceeds will go towards supporting YLS’s educational outreach, helping create a brighter future for children in our community through educational initiatives.

To close the evening, Dr. Shirley Ann Smith, a local author, educator, and arts advocate will read an excerpt from her book, Navigating the Labyrinth: Teacher Empowerment Through Instructional Leadership.

Tickets for this event are available at uway.org/events and include heavy hors d’oeuvres and one drink ticket. Tickets are $15 for guests and $10 for YLS donors.
