(Columbia, SC, October 27, 2020)—Family Connection of South Carolina will host a virtual Finish Line Ceremony for Columbia Buddy Walk participants and sponsors. The Facebook Live event will be held at facebook.com/FamilyConnectionofSouthCarolina on Sunday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m.
Columbia Buddy Walk 2020 is an annual event that raises awareness and funds to support the Down syndrome community and Family Connection of South Carolina.
“While we would prefer to celebrate in our in-person format, we are excited to be able to come together virtually with our families and supporters and celebrate Buddy Walk in safe format!” said Amy Holbert, CEO of Family Connection of South Carolina.
Presenting sponsor for this year’s event is Zinger’s Fencing. Additional event sponsors include Willoughby & Hoefer Attorney’s at Law, Midlands Therapy Services, Thompson Defense Firm, Step Ahead Early Intervention, CompuGroup Medical, Richard Perkins, Easterseals of South Carolina, GRACE Outdoor, and B106.7 FM.
Registration for Buddy Walk is still open. Individuals or teams can register or donate online at www.familyconnectionsc.org/buddywalk/.
During October—Down Syndrome Awareness Month—Buddy Walk participants are asked to send in video clips of their own personalized Buddy Walk celebrations. The virtual Finish Line Ceremony on November 1st will feature a video premier of the celebration clips as well as an awards presentation. Governor Henry McMaster will share a recorded message with Buddy Walk participants and sponsors during the Finish Line Ceremony.
Funds raised by participants and sponsors of Buddy Walk will help Family Connection of South Carolina continue serving families of children with special health care needs and disabilities like Down syndrome, with services and resources they need to help their children thrive. Services include peer-to-peer support, assistance with navigating the complex healthcare system, and guidance to collaborate with educators to ensure their child’s special education plans are carried out.
