The Social Emotional Learning Alliance for South Carolina (SEL4SC) is proud to announce that it has appointed Wendy Methvin as its executive director.

After graduating Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude in Honors English from the University of Tennessee, Wendy Methvin spent nearly a decade working as a medical and pharmaceutical sales manager for Baxter Healthcare Corporation and Medicis Dermatologics.

During her time with Medicis Dermatologics, Methvin exceeded her first year first quarter sales goals, finished third nationally in total sales volume, and provided the organization’s sales force with instruction in organizational territory management.

While at Baxter, she managed key hospital client relationships in Atlanta and Jacksonville; hired, trained, and supervised on-site employees; and achieved gross profit growth of 23% for the company’s GA/FL territory by establishing relationships with hospital physicians, nurses, and materials management managers. She was also nominated for the Baxter Rookie of the Year award and earned Baxter’s Achievement of Excellence Award for outstanding sales for three consecutive years.

After leaving the healthcare industry, Methvin launched HHI Yoga, where she has led, trained, and taught hundreds of people to live their best lives through wellness and yoga instruction.

She has also served as a PTA president elect, student improvement council board member, substitute teacher, Junior Achievement leader, room mother, and in other volunteer positions in numerous school and community organizations. In these roles, she has received a cherished opportunity to leverage her skills as an empathetic, people-oriented leader to inspire others.

“My experience as a community thought leader and my volunteer involvement as a mother afforded me the opportunity to positively impact children and support teachers and community leaders — as well as invest in the people of my community to help them be their best selves,” says Methvin. “My heart is for everyone regardless of age to open themselves up to the possibility of positive change through life skills, which are advocated and promoted through SEL4SC.”

SEL4SC is dedicated to advancing a broad set of essential life skills that children and adults across South Carolina can learn and use to regulate their emotions, communicate with others, demonstrate compassion and empathy, and make responsible decisions. These skills are critically important for personal well-being, vital for relationships, and invaluable to employers.

Via its coordinated advocacy, research, content creation, and consultation efforts, SEL4SC provides critical services that help build healthy lives and communities across South Carolina.

“We strive to ensure all children and adults in South Carolina develop the crucial skills they need to succeed in school, work, and life,” says Al Estee, Founder and President of SEL4SC. “Wendy’s unique combination of passion, perspective, and practical knowledge will help make our vision a reality.”
