Wingard’s Market Wins Small Business of the Year

On August 25, 2023, Wingard’s Market was selected as the Small Business of the Year by the Lexington Chamber and Visitor's Center.

Wingard's, a third-generation, family-owned Garden Center has served the people of Lexington County since 1968 and is a mainstay in our region for much more than plants. The spirit of giving back to the community is something the team at Wingard's prides itself on.

Wingard's Market has served as an event sponsor for Mission Lexington, the Lexington County Choral Society, the Lexington County Master Gardener program, and the Lexington County Museum gala. They remain active with Habitat for Humanity by donating plants and outdoor items for new homeowners; and they assist local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts obtain their merit badges. And that is just the beginning!

In the past few years, this family-owned business has seen growth in their team of almost 40 team members. They've added a Gift Shoppe, a Produce Market, a Greenhouse; and most recently, a Backyard Nature Center. The newest addition allows you to create your own ultimate bird oasis, learn about the benefits of having ladybugs, mason bees and praying mantises, or find out what is swimming around your local watering hole with their new educational fish tank! The Nature Center is largely operated by the owner's son, Zach Steinhauser. In 2022, Zach debuted his documentary film about the famed Purple Martins Purple Haze: A Conservation Film and takes visitors on a Purple Martin cruise to Bomb Island in the evenings during the summer months. Zach is also the owner of Carolina Safari Company.

"We know we can make an impact by supporting local farmers, artisans, artists, community groups, churches and other local businesses," stated Wally Steinhauser, co-owner with his wife, Delores, "What an honor to be recognized by the Lexington Chamber."
