COLUMBIA, S.C. (April 1, 2021) —Copper Penny Columbia, a destination for women’s wear at 2702 Devine Street, will be known as “Slate” beginning April 1, 2021. Mollie Hobbs opened her high-end clothing shop in 2013. In September of 2018, Hobbs moved her business from Five Points to its current location, and she is looking forward to another milestone as Slate and her business grow.

Shoppers accustomed to the edited collections of elevated daily wear, shoes and accessories Hobbs and her team offer will still find the same style and fashion-forward shopping experience in Slate. Through this transition, however, Slate will focus on bringing shoppers more elevated customer service that Hobbs realizes her clients have come to love through the years. Slate’s rebranding will also allow the shop to offer e-commerce and online shopping through its new website, which will launch this summer, to better serve local customers and Slate’s out-of-town clients as well.

“I am excited to rebrand my shop on Devine Street to exemplify the style and aesthetic we have created,” said Hobbs, who leads a team of six sales associates. “It’s a dream come true to continue to expand on all of the ideas we’ve had through the years and bring them to fruition to better serve our clients. Owning a female-run business is amazing in itself, and I am so happy to be an independent business owner. I hope to inspire my team and fabulous customers daily.”

Hobbs, who grew up surrounded by her family’s businesses in North Carolina and graduated from Wofford College, aims to give her customers confidence by stocking lines of clothing that bring something special to the pieces her clients reach for in their closets every day. The shop is known for its buying expertise and carrying brands like FARM Rio’s bold prints and Nation LTD’s sought-after twists on basic t-shirts. Slate also carries Agolde, Citizens of Humanity, Cleobella, Misa Los Angeles, Karina Grimaldi, Sundays and Michael Stars, among others.
